Top 10 reasons to join The Iowa Crush
10.The Iowa Crush is a member of the Independent Women’s Football League, the largest league in Women’s Football. The Crush will be playing in Tier II of the IWFL. Does this mean that the teams in Tier II are somehow less than the teams in Tier I? Absolutely Not! Much like high school athletics with Class 1A and 2A, the tier system works the same way, basing the tiers on market size. Looking at all the factors Tier II just made the most sense. Luckily, the IWFL has enough teams to be able to make the tier system work.
9.The Iowa Crush is an established team. From the beginning as the Des Moines Courage to the re-establishment as The Iowa Crush, the Crush has brought women’s football to Iowa for the past six years. As with any organization starting from zero, we have had our share of, If I only knew then what I know now moments. One thing that has not changed is that the teams’ drive to improve every year.
8.Our last season’s record was 0-8. You may ask yourself with a record of 0-8, why that would be a reason to play for the Crush. The answer plain and simple is one word, motivation. We could make excuses as to why the season ended the way that it did, but that’s not our style. Instead, we take the lessons of the previous season and we build on them. It’s what we have done for the past six years and what we will continue to do for the next sixty years.
7.The Iowa Crush is a Women’s Football team that is owned by women. We have never forgotten that before the word football, there is the word women.
6.We are positive. No where is our web-site will you find anything belittling other teams in Iowa. You can do your own research and come to your own conclusions. Yes we know it’s there, but as mom always said if you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all. Good advice then, great advice now.
5.The IWFL’s partnership with USA football. This partnership will develop standardized coaching and officiating qualifications. The new IWFL/USA football junior girl’s league will bridge the gap between when a girl graduates from Pop Warner Football until she can join a women’s team at age 18.
4.Cheerleaders. That’s right! One of the new and more exciting additions for the upcoming year is the Iowa Crush Cheer Group. Hey if it’s good enough for the Dallas Cowboys, it’s good enough for the Iowa Crush.
3.New officiating staff. The 2009 officiating crew will include a female referee. We are proud to be a groundbreaking organization in Iowa and are proud to partner with a groundbreaking officiating crew.
2. What about the player fee? Why should I play for you if I have to pay? This is our philosophy on our player participation fee: We know exactly how much money we will need to complete a season. Our player participation fee continues to be one of the lowest in the league. We have several opportunities for players to earn their player fee through our contract with Wells Fargo, private sponsorships, and player fundraisers. We will never turn away a player for not being able to pay. The Iowa Crush is not out to make a profit, 100% of the money raised goes back to the team. We can make anything work as long as you are willing to make an effort.
1. The Iowa Crush is not for everybody. Playing for us means making a commitment from January 1, 2009 through July 30, 2009. It means showing up for practices, fundraisers, and of course games. We promise you that you will be a part of this team, no matter what your skill level. Talent does no excuse a lack of commitment. We offer you an opportunity to be part of something special. Stand up with a team with history, a team with integrity, and team with heart. Stand up with The Crush.
